The Blue Whale grows over 100 feet long (the longest one ever record was 108 feet long!) and can weigh over 200 tons. It is much bigger than the biggest dinosaurs. Its tongue weighs more than an elephant. Its heart is larger than an average size car. Its blood vessels are so wide that the average person could swim through them! The tail of a Blue Whale is wider than a small aircraft’s wings.
The blue whale is a marine mammal belonging to the baleen whale parvorder, Mysticeti and is the biggest known animal to ever exist!
They’re big babies too,
Blue Whales are easily the biggest babies on earth.
At birth already rank amongst the largest full-grown animals. Born at around 8,800 pounds with a length of about 26 feet. Gaining 200 pounds a day, their growth rate is likely one of the fastest in the animal world, with a several billion-fold increase in tissue in the 18 months from conception to weaning.
The heart of Blue Whales weighs over 1,300 pounds.
